First we’re kind of amazed that something like this has never taken place before – and no, you don’t have to be a female to enjoy what they’ll be serving!
On May 28th the Fem Collective, south Florida-based women’s advocacy group will reportedly be presenting the FemAle Brew Fest (great name!), the nation’s first craft beer festival that celebrates women in the brewing industry.
And given the rise of women in a business that has long been deemed a “boys club,” this celebration is not only a wonderful idea, it’s an idea that’s so overdue!
Organized in conjunction with representatives from UniteUs Group, the FemAle Brew Fest is designed as a showcase for the women who are currently driving the industry – and will only feature craft beer from either women owned breweries, or those that employ a female head brewer or brewmaster.
This thing is so overdue!
“The FemAle Brew Fest is unique because of its focus,” Fem Collective spokesperson & CEO Frances Antonio-Martineau told the Miami New Times. “For years, the women in this industry have been overshadowed by men. But with this event, some of the best female-run breweries in the country will be in attendance, showcasing both their regular and seasonal products, making this the first and only festival of its kind in the U.S.”
Brewers in attendance will include a bevy respected industry leaders.
National names such as Emily Thomas, cofounder, owner, and brewer of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing, Erin Cox, Great Divide’s Quality Assurance Manager, and Lauren Zeidler, Ballast Point’s Director of Quality, will join members of Fem Collective and other women in brewing for what promises to be the first (but we promise you, not the last) all-female craft beer festival.
Again this thing is so overdue…
