, Seattle Beer Week is On! Now!

Last Thursday marked the official start of 2014’s Seattle Beer Week – ten

glorious days packed with events, tastings, gatherings, and special releases too numerous for any sane person to attend them all. Thankfully, your humble Seattle correspondent has cherry-picked just a few fantastic experiences you’ll want to add to your calendar.

Be sure to check out the full lineup of events on the Seattle Beer Week website (warning: side effects of doing so may include shirking of all personal and professional responsibilities through May 18th).

May 12:

Women in Beer at Pike Brewery – 6-9 pm. This is a fantastic annual event all about drinking beer, spirits, and wine brewed by women, and tasting food created and cooked by women-owned businesses. Proceeds benefit Planned

Parenthood. “Women encouraged, men welcome!”

May 13:

What the Hops? at Fremont Brewing – 7-8:15 pm. Learn about growing hops at home and the hop industry in Washington State from one of the farmers behind Fremont’s crop of organic Citra and Simcoe hops, Ron Britt. The first in several upcoming learning events at Fremont.

May 14:

Big Night with Big Al at Tutta Bella (Bellevue) – 6:30-9 pm. Some of the best woodfire pizza in Seattle meets an intriguing five-course beer pairing by Big Al Brewing. (Also happening 5/13 at Tutta Bella Wallingford.)

May 15:

Beer Cocktails at Elysian Fields – 5-8 pm. Sample a selection of craft beer cocktails created by the Elysian bar team.

May 16:

SoDo vs. Ballard at Downtown Spirits – 4-7 pm. Three breweries from each of these Seattle beer powerhouse neighborhoods do battle to prove who has the best beer in the city. Try all six contestants and cast your vote!

May 17:

SOS for OSO at Skylark – 7 pm-midnight. A Benefit for the victims of the Oso mudslide with local music and breweries. All proceeds from door, raffle, and $1 per drink will be donated to Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation and the Animal Rescue Foundation.

May 18:
End-of-Festival events all around town, including
Fremont Brewing, The Dray, Pyramid and Taphouse!

Also be sure to check out what’s happening at Chuck’s Hop Shop (Greenwood and Central District locations) – Chuck has some great guest breweries and fun themes planned for the week, including last night’s IPA Blowout, Afternoon in the Boneyard, and Caturday, featuring appearances by local celebrity cats! Heck, I might just set up a tent outside and dig in for the week.
