Sandy Relief- The NYC Craft Brewing Community Lends A Hand

Zach Mack, our NYC correspondent, also runs the Alphabet City Beer Co. His place is down on Avenue C in lower Manhattan, and he, like so many of the region’s small businesses, was hit hard by Sandy. He’s not complaining (it’s not his style) and explained that so many people took it worse than he, but he did worry that the region’s devastation is now an afterthought for many and that the national media’s attention may have moved on. “New Yorkers, we don’t forget our own” Zach said, “people are hurting bad out there and we keep looking for ways to help.”

Like so many local organizations, The NYC craft beer community is constantly finding new ways to help those in need – Hand Crafted Tasting (an event production company) is one of them. They’re presenting tomorrow’s (Dec 1st) NYC Craft Beer Festival down at Pier 36 and they are stepping in to help a Queens community that was hit hard by Sandy.

They explain their efforts this way:

Our heartfelt prayers go out to those affected by Hurricane Sandy – many of them are our friends, our neighbors, and even our families.

While there are a number of relief efforts already underway, recovery in the tri-state area will take weeks, months, and even years to bring back normalcy to our community. With that said, we at the Hand Crafted Tasting Co. want to do our part to help during our December 1st NYC Craft Beer Festival – Winter Harvest and have founded the Sandy Relief Supplies Drive.

So here’s the deal, we want to partner with you, our loyal craft beer community, to help benefit our neighbors in the Breezy Point community of Queens. Many, many items will still be needed for months after the storm. We’ll be collecting essential, badly needed items and children’s Christmas presents for our neighbors in Breezy Point. Before you come to the festival, raid the pantry and/or garage, or add an item to your grocery cart and bring a donation to help those affected by the storm!

With that said, we kindly ask you to join us in this effort by bringing a donation to the Winter Festival to support our neighbors. Please consider bringing any of the following items – we’ll pack them up and deliver them to Breezy Point after the festival! In addition to the much needed items listed below, we’ll also be collecting children’s Christmas presents as many families will be struggling during the holidays to provide for their families.

(Here’s what is needed most right now)

• Flashlights

• Batteries (size C and D most needed)

• Work gloves

• Debris removal equipment, shovels, rakes, brooms, and crowbars

• Tools (hand and power)

• Mold remediation materials

• Safety glasses

• Cleaning supplies

• Heavy duty garbage bags

• Respirators

• Tyvek suits

• Baby supplies (diapers, wipes)

• Adult diapers

• Holiday gifts (unwrapped)

Hand Crafted Tasting Company is working with Governor Cuomo’s Disaster Relief Team to make sure that the supplies collected by the NYC Craft Beer Festival go to the victims who need it most. We at AmericanCraftBeer.com applaud their efforts and hope that you’ll support them and everyone in this time of need.
