Boston Beer’s Samuel Adams brand has a new spot that takes a shot at the famous Budweiser Clydesdale horses which won’t be getting their own spot at Super Bowl LV.

And it’s not like the world’s #1 brewer has suddenly gotten shy about spending money at this year’s game. Anheuser-Busch brands, Bud Light, Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade, Michelob Ultra, and Michelob Ultra Organic Seltzer, are all being showcased, just not Budweiser.

That right, no regal Clydesdales transporting Budweiser through the snow, no cute little doggies looking longingly out of frosty windows, the “King of Beers” is sitting this Super Bowl out.

In lieu  of running a traditional Super Bowl spot, Budweiser is releasing a 90-second ad it intends to run on digital outlets, calling attention to COVID-19 vaccination efforts, which although admirable, is difficult to work its trademark Clydesdale horses into…just sayin’.

Ironically the only Clydesdale horses attending this year’s Super Bowl, will be featured in a Sam Adams commercial, but it’s only running that ad in the Boston and New York markets.

Set up to promote Sam Adams’ new Wicked Hazy IPA, the 30-second spot returns “Your Cousin From Boston” a comical character who’s made several appearances for the Boston Beer brand.

In Sam Adams’ latest Super Bowl spot, Boston Beer’s colorful cousin sets those Clydesdale horses free where they go on to wreak havoc on the urban setting.

“Oops, I did not see that coming,” he says. “Can we not tell my mom about this?”
