Rumor Mill – Rick Astley, Mikkeller Brewery, High Gravity Beers And More!

, Rumor Mill – Rick Astley, Mikkeller Brewery, High Gravity Beers And More!Yikes, 2017 is here…and clearly the craft beer biz isn’t slowing down anytime soon. But no worries, Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that!

Never Gonna Give Beer Up (UK) – One hit wonder Rick Astley who’s song “Never Gonna Give You Up” ruled the charts decades ago is reportedly  making the same commitment to a new beer brand he hopes to introduce soon – and unlike many celebrities it appears that he’s chosen a creditable brewer to work with. The now 50 year-old singer is reportedly working Danish brewer Mikkeller, so no matter what you think of the dude’s music, you can’t fault the dude his beer instincts. Described as a fruity pilsner lager, the beer still needs a name so tweet him @rickastley and help a brutha out.

High Gravity Beer Grocery Sales Now Legal In Tennessee (Nashville, TN) – A new year and a new law took effect on January 1st allowing beers with higher alcohol beer (6.2% -10.1%) to now be sold legally in grocery and convenience stores throughout the state.

Words To Drink By (Ft Collins, CO) – “I want to turn the whole US sour…Bud Light sour is my end goal in life.”          Peter Bouckaert – New Belgium Brewing to the Coloradoan

Mikkeller In SoCal To Go Small Batch Crazy In January (San Diego, CA) – As we wrote recently if you’re an out-of-towner planning on opening your own brewing operation in a beer capital like San Diego, you’d better have the street cred of Mikkel Bjergsø’s Mikkeller. And Mikkeller San Diego hope to validate that reputation and will be releasing three fresh small batch creations at their kick-off event on January 12th.

Michigan Brewers Look To Go National (Detroit, MI) – According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan’s largest craft breweries have growing national (and International) aspirations for 2017. Atwater will begin brewing beer in Texas, and Short’s will be going outside of Michigan for the first time ever. New Holland will begin distributing their beers in the Pacific Northwest (as Bell’s will in Texas) and Founders will begin building a second brewery in Grand Rapids in an effort to keep up without-of-state demand.

, Rumor Mill – Rick Astley, Mikkeller Brewery, High Gravity Beers And More! What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – Highland Brewing just sent us their first seasonal for 2017 and we hit it up immediately. Highland Southern Sixer IPA is a super-complex 6% ABV India Pale Ale that uses Ekuanot, a new hop they’ve never built a beer around before. Very nice!
