Good And Bad Beer Stats (Illinois) – IRI Worldwide, a Chicago-based research firm recently released a report on off-premise beer sales for the first 134 days of the year…and not surprisingly, the news was mixed.
Overall US beer sales (craft and non-craft combined) were down 0.8 percent, while sales in the craft beer segment alone were up an encouragingly up 2.5 percent (we’ll take it!). And craft brewery stats for that same period, were mixed as well.
Top craft brewery performers include New Belgium (up 6.4%), Stone (up 22.4%), Bell’s (up 19.2%), and Firestone Walker (up 19.4%) and SweetWater Brewing (up 19.4%).
Major craft breweries whose overall sales declined in that same period include, Boston Beer (down 5.7%), Sierra Nevada (down 8.5%) and Deschutes (down 9.7%).

10 Barrel Range War Takes To The Air (San Diego, CA) – AB InBev-owned 10 Barrel Brewing’s new San Diego brewpub opening was met with its share of resistance, including a successful GoFundMe campaign that raised enough money to fly anti-10 Barrel banner over the pub on opening day.
A ’10 Barrel is Not Craft Beer’ banner attached to the plane that reportedly circled above the pub opening for at least three hours on May 27th.
What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Charlottesville, VA) – Last night we hit up something timely that was crafted by Virginia-based Starr Hill. Part of the brewery’s King Of Hop Variety Pack, Starr Hill King Of Hop Lemon-Lime Imperial IPA is a 7.5% ABV summer refresher that’s dosed with lemon and lime zest.
