The “Doctor” Gets His Own House (San Marcos, CA) – Following in the path of Mitch Steele, Stone’s brewmaster for over a decade, who left the company in June to be partner in a new brewing startup in Georgia, comes news that another beloved Stone vet, will be starting his own brewing venture.
“Dr” Bill Sysak, ACB pal and a brilliant craft beer guy recently announced that he’d be starting his own brewery in San Marcos, California, slated to open spring of 2017.
Wild Barrel Brewing Company is planned as a 15 barrel brewhouse offering a rotating list of west coast-style IPAs, fruit-forward sours, artisan coffee stouts that change with the seasons and refreshing Belgian Wits. Plans also include an extensive barrel-aging program that will take on everything from barrel-aged sours to Bourbon-barrel Imperial Stout variations.

A Record Breaking 20 Year GABF Winning Steak (Phoenixville. Pa) – With their latest win, the 45th medal they’ve taken at the Great American Beer Festival Competition, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant has become the only brewery to win consecutive medals for over twenty years. First Lafayette, Next The World (Lake Charles, LA) – Southwest Louisiana’s Crying Eagle Brewing, which has been in business for not yet a year, is already expanding its brand well beyond its home base – and they’re taking three of their core beers (The Chuck, Ready To Mingle and Calcasieu Common) into Lafayette, just in time for Halloween!
What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time and this week we hit up a winter seasonal that we just received from the Einstök Brewery. Einstök Icelandic Doppelbock is a strikingly well-balanced 6.7% ABV Strong Lager that was brewed using pure glacial melt which comes roaring down through the country’s ancient lava fields. Yes!
