Shorts Brewing Buys Rights To Arcadia Beer (Elk Rapids MI) – Michigan-based Short’s Brewing Company has acquired the rights to brew Arcadia Beer, a Kalamazoo beer brand that fell on hard times and shut down operations in 2019.

The company’s decision to acquire the rights to the beer is not connected to the property site in Kalamazoo according to Shorts CEO Scott Newman-Bale

Arcadia founder Tim Surprise, no fan of the seller who had acquired the brewery in foreclosure, told 3WWMT the he was encouraged that the brand he created had landed in good hands…

“I’m very grateful that the brand is with a group that cares about craft beer and its culture, as opposed to the man who acquired it from the lender by using prevarication, obfuscation and dishonesty for strictly the real estate that we developed.”

Short’s Brewing will brew the beer in its Elk Rapids facility.

More Than 800 Breweries Participate In Black Is Beautiful Collaboration (San Antonio, TX) The death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who was killed by a white police officer on May 25 in Minneapolis, has led to a special racial justice collaboration, Quick Hits: Short’s Buys Arcadia Ales Rights / 824 Breweries Commit To Racial Justice Collaboration

Weathered Souls Brewing, a black-owned brewery in San Antonio, Texas, created Black Is Beautiful Imperial Stout and is sharing its recipe with breweries that want to participate and asking that 100% of the beer’s proceeds be donated to local foundations that support police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged.

As of publication, 824 breweries in 50 states and 13 countries have committed to participate in this important effort and that number continues to grow.
