(Not Fascist)

Are Budweiser and Bud Light Fascist Beers?

The quick answer is, of course, no. But a recent Anheuser-Busch tweet did raise some eyebrows.

Fascism has been described political philosophy, a movement, or regime marked by dictatorial power, nationalism, hierarchy and elitism. But Fascism has never been associated with prominent beer brand.

But last week Anheuser-Busch took to social media to market its two bestselling beer brands, Budweiser and Bud Light, using the phrase “Reject modernity, embrace tradition,” which one twitter user pointed out were the first two the first two elements of Umberto Eco’s 14 elements of Fascism.

Ouch!

In a statement shared to Newsweek, Anheuser-Busch explained that they did not intend for the recent social media post to be offensive…

“We did not intend for the recent Budweiser social post to be offensive in any way. We were not aware of the origins of the meme when it was posted, and once this was brought to our attention, we deleted it immediately.”

Promising Hangover Cure?

Researchers in Finland may have discovered what centuries of trial and error has failed to produce according to the Drinks Business, an effective hangover cure.

In a study published in the journal Alcohol and Alcoholism researchers at the University of Helsinki and the University of Eastern Finland have found that taking a 1,200 milligrams tablet of amino acid L-cysteine before you start drinking could significantly reduce alcohol-related nausea and headaches.

L-cysteine is an essential amino acid which can be found in meat, dairy products, eggs, legumes, nuts and seeds, as well as some protein powders. The researchers describe the amino acids effects as “unique” and could play a role in “preventing or alleviating [hangover] symptoms as well as reducing the risk of alcohol addiction.”
