QUICK HITS – Budweiser Immigration Super Bowl Ad Backlash, AleSmith Brewing And More!

Things are certainly heating up in the world of craft beer as we move in to 2017. And here’s some of what’s been happening while you were drinking your way through the weekend.

Budweiser Gets Political at the Super Bowl – (Leuven, Belgium) – Wherever you come down on the immigration debate, you got to admit to admit that Budweiser’s Super Bowl ad chronicling the journey of the company’s co-founder Adolphus Busch from Germany to St Louis in 1857, was a ballsy business move on their part.

Many are championing the ad’s immigration story while others are showing active disdain that the global conglomerate (and largest beer producer in the world) would choose to weigh in on such an explosive and divisive subject as they did, especially during the Super Bowl.

Budweiser has reportedly said that the ad was not intended to be a political statement and that it was in the works long before Trump was inaugurated. But some business analysts are questioning it’s timing in light of the President’s recent executive order and many Americans are clearly not buying that there was no politics involved

The Super Bowl commercial which they’ve named Born the Hard Way (an obvious play on their provocative anti-craft Brewed the Hard Way ad that aired in 2015) debuted earlier this week on YouTube, and had more than 15 million views by Sunday afternoon.

AleSmith Brewing To Get Permanent Restrooms! (San Diego, CA)– We’re EXTREMLY relived to announce that a second phase of AleSmith Brewing’s new tasting room expansion is set to begin and that in addition to an upstairs mezzanine with an outdoor patio, they’ll be building PERMANENT RESTROOMS. ACB is pleased to learn of their intentions…the neighbors have gotta be psyched!

Bell’s Belle Of The Ball (Comstock, MI) – Big announcement from Bell’s Brewery, the 7th largest craft brewery in the US, where second generation co-owner (and ACB fav) Laura Bell has become the company’s new CEO. In her new role Laura will oversee all brewery operations for Bell’s (and their sister operation, Upper Hand Brewery) and do her best to blow off calls from sketchy beer news sites such as ours. Larry Bell will reportedly continue as the company’s president with Laura reporting directly to him.
