Must Buy Food At Tasting Rooms in California (SoCal) – If you want to sample something new at a California brewery tasting room, plan on purchasing a meal or no beer for you!

After being shuttered for months due to the coronavirus, some of San Diego’s craft brewers have started reopening their tasting rooms with new rules in place, including the on-site sale of food…something that many of those breweries have never offered before.

“Breweries are included in phase 2 of California’s reopening, folded into the same guidelines given by the state for dine-in restaurants,” according San Diego 7. “Breweries, bars, pubs, craft distilleries, and wineries can now reopen so long as they offer sit-down, dine-in meals and follow the same safety measures as restaurant dining rooms.

“Sales of 24-can cases of Michelob Ultra are up 59% so far this year, while sales of Miller Lite cases are up 26.5% reports Houma Today. “ Sales of 30-packs of Busch Light are up 31%, while Coors Light and Bud Light 30-packs are up 31% and 24%, respectively.”

And Big Beer brands (which clearly benefit from pricing and well established distribution networks) are showing sales 10% higher in early May then at the same time last year, while the craft beer segment is tracking down.
