On November 3rd Portland, Oregon will be losing one of its oldest brewing institutions with a heritage that can be traced back to 1996.

Here’s the deal…

The Alameda Brewhouse, a Northeast Portland neighborhood institution that dates back to the early days of Portland’s first craft beer boom, will be shutting down both its Northeast Portland brewpub and its additional 20-barrel facility in Southeast Portland in November.Alameda, Portland’s Alameda Brewhouse and Brewery To Close

According to the Oregonian, who broke the story, its owner Matt Schumacher was unable to comment on Alameda’s closing “for legal reasons” and that “his staff of 20 employees were devastated.”

Schumacher added that “the pub’s a 5-barrel brewhouse in the Beaumont Village will continue to operate for a short period, but did confirm that both the brewpub and Alameda Southeast Portland production facility would be closing their doors soon.

Alameda Brewing’s 22 year award-legacy includes four medals at the Great American Beer Festival, all for Black Bear XX Stout, which took a Gold Medal at the 2003 and 2005 GABF and the Silver Medal in 2006 and 2008 in the foreign-style stout category.
