Having survived the first leg of my trip - a stop over in Sacramento, fighting traffic in LA and a 3 day Super Bowl party splurge in Orange County, then roaming the pastoral settings of Central California, it was time to head back to Oregon. But I had some serious stops left on my itinerary. Before hitting up the crown jewel of the trip - sampling Pliny the Younger on my birthday, there was still so much to do.

For the past five years I've been trying to time up a pilgrimage to not only visit my fraternity brothers for our annual (infamous) Super Bowl party, but to finally visit Russian River for their Pliny the Younger release, all coinciding with my birthday. Well, I finally did it and by all accounts it was an epic voyage to 10 breweries that reaffirmed my love for California. 

Although not nearly as overtly offensive as last year's "Brewed The Hard Way" Super Bowl commercial, Budweiser clearly felt a need to be vaguely belligerent to the craft beer community that roasted them so brutally after last year's atrocious marketing disaster. And to reaffirm their manly manliness of their beer, at the same time.

I've been struggling with how to address this, ever since that notorious Anheuser- Busch commercial debuted during the third quarter of last season's Super Bowl. Of course you remember the one that promoted their Macro Beer over products like a Pumpkin Peach Ale and portrayed craft beer fans as bearded academics fussing prissily over their beer.
