With New York State reopening, there are jobs that need filling and one upstate brewery is so desperate that they’ve created a “Help Wanted” beer.

Here’s the deal….

Bolton Landing Brewing, a family owned operation, located near New York State’s scenic Lake George resort area, is having a difficult time filling several positions at its brewery, taproom and restaurant. And to help mitigate this serious need, which escalates as tourists flood the region every summer, the brewery has crafted a new beer…a 6.8% ABV Help Wanted New England IPA, with this job posting on the can…

Fan of our beers, like this juicy New England-style IPA? Got some free time on your hands? It sounds like you should try enjoying these great beers as a member of the Bolton Landing Brewing family! Like most businesses this year, we are looking for help in our taproom. We offer competitive pay, room for growth throughout the company, a fun and laid-back work environment, employee outings, and a view that can’t be beat. Email or swing by the taproom to apply.”

Company President Brendan Murnane, 34, told American Craft Beer that his 7 barrel state-of the-art brewery, which he opened along with his father in 2017, has never had a staffing problem until now. A problem made all the more critical by the fact that the majority of Bolton Landing’s annual profits are generated now through Memorial Day.

Unfortunately the pandemic has created a series of obstacles that has him working 24/7 to keep everything in play.

But Murnane also mentioned New York State’s enhanced unemployment benefits as a factor impacting the available workforce.

“If you’re getting paid to stay at home and enjoy the lake for the summertime, a lot of people would be crazy to not take the government up on that,” Murnane said.

According to Murnane the idea of a “Help Wanted” beer came up during a staff meeting in June when his head brewer, Shaw Kerr, suggested they add a job posting to the back of an upcoming beer.

The good news is that the Help Wanted IPA has been a hit, in more ways than one. It’s selling briskly and Bolton Landing Brewing has already started a second run.

And they’ve filled at least one position already.
