No stranger to bigtime proclamations, NY Governor Andrew M. Cuomo used his prominent bully pulpit this week, to announce the launch of the Taste NY Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge, where the state’s beer-savvy residents are invited to vote for their favorite New York-based brewery.
As cynical as we can sometimes get about politicians here at American Craft Beer, we’ve got to admit that the Governor has been a friend to New York’s craft beer community and deserves his share of credit for the industry’s explosive growth while he’s been in office.
Under his leadership a whole series craft-beer friendly legislation and economic incentives have been introduced and signed into law – and New York has grown from just 50 breweries back in 2011 to the 321 microbreweries, farm breweries, and restaurant breweries than now populate the state today.
Voting for the Taste NY Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge is now open, and you need get on this so Governor Cuomo can host a final tasting event for the five New York brewery finalists on May 17th in NYC, which not coincidentally coincides with American Craft Beer Week, across the country.
