October is ON and American craft brewers are addressing the changing seasons with more exciting offerings you’re gonna want have around.

Banned in North Carolina And Back From Hibernation (Frederick, MD) – Flying Dog Brewery has replaced its annual K-9 Winter Warmer with something they’re even more excited about. With an aroma reminiscent of baked cherry pie on top of a malty backbone, Flying Dog Freezin’ Season is a 7.4% ABV spiced winter seasonal which derived its dark fruity flavors from the English ale yeast that is used.

As with all Flying Dog releases, its label features artwork from the world-renowned illustrator Ralph Steadman. This time it’s a cartoon figure warming its bones around a campfire.  Amazingly, the North Carolina ABC Commission blocked the sale of Freezin’ Season, writing that it was in “bad taste”.  Flying Dog countered with a lawsuit against the commission for what it considered to be a blatant violation of its 1st Amendment rights and for the first time ever, the North Carolina ABC board reversed its decision.

, New Winter Seasonals, Milk Stouts And Pale AlesA Roaring Fire And A Pint of S’mores (Longmont, CO) – Left Hand Brewing has an interesting new winter seasonal that takes its lead from a beloved campfire treat. Crafted with specially curated cacao and toasted marshmallows, Left Hand S’mores Milk Stout is a 6% ABV take on the brewery’s lactose-fueled classic with a slight tweak to the malt bill to accentuate graham cracker flavors.

“We went through a lot of trials for S’mores Milk Stout,” said Jeff Joslin, Director of Brewing Operations at Left Hand. “We used liquid cacao because it lent the best chocolate flavor, richness of mouthfeel, and authenticity of ingredient. These ingredients all come together with toasted marshmallow to create the perfect liquid s’more.”

A “Most” West Coast (San Diego, CA) – AleSmith Brewing has returned a classic to celebrate the brewery’s 25th Anniversary. Teeming with bright hop aromas of grapefruit, pine, and tropical fruits thanks to abundant additions of Columbus and Citra hops, AleSmith IPA is a 7.25% ABV West Coast-Style India Pale Ale with a hefty malt backbone and smooth, bitter finish.
