Music and beer have long been wedded at the hip. Music festivals, concerts, and even the jukebox at your local dive sound better with a beer in hand. So it’s not surprising that smart bands like Megadeth and Deftones co-brand with SERIOUS breweries…

Megadeth / Unibroue / Saison 13

The whole “rock star brews a beer” has become an increasingly crowded stage with more and more artists announcing new beers that they’re doing with someone.

Unfortunately most of these beers are undistinguished lagers brewed by contract operators released primarily to showcase the band’s latest album and upcoming tour dates.

Not so for Megadeth is following up their A Tout Le Monde, a hoppy 4.5% ABV Belgian-style ale that they did with Quebec’s Unibroue in 2016, with something considerably more aggressive.

Saison 13 is Megadeth and Unibroue’s latest collaboration. It’s a 6.1% ABV Belgian Blonde Ale that’s abundantly dry hopped. According to Megadeth, Saison 13 is already available in select Canadian provinces and will be released in the US this September.

According to Loudwire “Megadeth are currently off the road while singer Dave Mustaine continues his treatment for throat cancer.” The band called off their summer touring and have continued to work toward their follow-up to 2016’s Dystopia album.

Deftones and Belching Beaver Brewery Release Dia de Los

Two San Diego legends, Deftones and Belching Beaver Brewery, are back at it.  They are following up on  the release of Phantom Bride IPA, a wildly popular hop-forward collaboration beer that’s rightfully earned its year-round release status, with something we’d buy for its can design alone.

After attending a Deftones concert in San Diego in 2018, the Belching Beaver team was blown away by the band’s performance and the promotional Dia de los Muertos-inspired artwork that graced the stage. That led to the band’s second collaboration which takes the ‘border lager’ tradition to the next level.

The fifth installment in this series of band collaborations, Belching Beaver Dia de Los Deftones is a 5% ABV Mexican-Style Lager with an easy-drinking ambience and a mild-hop finish. It’s available now and the police have been warned.
