Likely (And Unlikely) Top 10 Beer Cities

, Likely (And Unlikely) Top 10 Beer Cities

It seems like every week another data firm is sending out a press release with the best cities to visit if you care about beer. And what’s interesting is how widely these top-10 lists can vary.

In fact, we just came across a “Best Beer Cities” listing that was unique for the number of Beer Cities that we’d never heard touted as beer destinations before.

Infogroup, a big data, analytics and marketing services provider, recently named their top U.S. cities for beer and while some of them were obvious, we found others totally WTF!

Data freaks to the core, they compiled this listing from their already existing database of more than 15 million records.

Their particular angle on this was to identify metro areas that regardless of population, are home to the most beer retailers and breweries, including craft and microbreweries.

Once those factors were compiled, the cities were ranked by their concentration of beer-related businesses per 10,000 residents and came up with this (very specific) listing.

  1. Bend, Ore.
  2. Boulder, Colo.
  3. Asheville, N.C.
  4. Fort Collins, Colo.
  5. Niles-Benton Harbor, Mich.
  6. Great Falls, Mont.
  7. Burlington, Vt.
  8. Corvallis, Ore.
  9. Mansfield, Ohio
  10. Mount Vernon, Wash.

Okay, where are some of these places again…and does Jet Blue fly direct to any of them?

Kidding aside, we understand (and actually applaud) calling the world’s attention to beer destinations like Bend, Boulder, Asheville and even Fort Collins. Many of us have already made treks to some of these great beer cities.

But we’re pretty sure we won’t be celebrating National Beer Day (April 7th) power-pounding designer lagers in Mansfield, Ohio, or Great Falls, Montana for that matter…Just sayin’.
