The Guinness Gravity Bar Gets More Gravitas

If you’ve ever visited the legendary Guinness Brewery at St. James’s Gate you understand why it’s a beloved Dublin institution…You might have ended your tour up in the Gravity Bar,which sits high atop of Guinness Storehouse and offers a spectacular view of the beautiful city (in addition to some hard to get beers).  And it’s getting a big new upgrade.

The Drinks Business is reporting that Guinness is investing €16M (more than $18 million USD) in what not surprisingly has one become one of the world’s most renowned beer destinations.

In fact the Guinness Storehouse was Ireland’s most visited attraction in last year with 1.6 million visitors having ended up at the Gravity Bar. To put things in perspective you have to consider that that’s about 200,000 more visitors more than Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher, a spectacular setting where you unfortunately can’t get a beer.

In addition to the Gravity Bar upgrade there are also plans for a new three-story building to be built directly adjacent to the Guinness Storehouse.  That new addition will provide additional space for the Guinness Archives which celebrates the history of the 257 year-old brewery.

Guinness hopes to begin construction on everything in 2018 and officially open their new spaces in 2019.
