The Goose Island Bourbon County Stout Proprietor’s Release

If you are one of  Goose Island’s many Bourbon County Stout Brand fans, you’re already well-versed in their acclaimed “Black Friday” variations – and one in particular – the Bourbon County Stout Proprietor’s release.

Bourbon County Stout Proprietor’s is the holy grail of the series. Brewed as a thank you to Goose Island’s loyal local fans, and ever since 2013, only released in Chicago on Black Friday – it has become one of the world’s most coveted beers.

This is a beer that collectors have been willing to pay top dollar to add to their cellars. This is a beer that many consider moving to the “Windy City” for.

The brewery did offer a lottery in October this year, where participants were selected at random to win up to two (2) tickets for the Bourbon County Stout Proprietor’s Day Bottle Release at their Barrel Warehouse on 11/20. Not surprisingly the response was overwhelming.

Part of the fun of the BCS Proprietor’s is how different it can be from year to year.

Traditionally, Goose Island invites its brewers and others in the community, to share their ideas for the BCS Proprietor’s release. This year the most intriguing idea came from Emily Kosmal, a Goose Island brewer who came to the company with a background in food science, and a love of dark chocolate and chipotle peppers, which informs this year’s variation.

Aged in maple barrels that extend this balancing act of earthy complexity, the 2016 Bourbon County Stout Proprietor’s release will no doubt continue its streak as one of the most collectable beers in the world.
