Citing the “significant impact” that COVID-19 has had on its business. Chicago-based Goose Island Beer announced that it would be closing its second home in Philadelphia, the latest brewery to fall victim to the coronavirus in the city.

Located in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood, a rising artistic, culinary and musical center in the city, the 10,500-square-foot brewhouse opened its doors in March 2018.

It was Goose Island’s only brewery in the East and the latest beer operation in the city to close its doors forever thanks to COVID-19. But unfortunately it won’t be the last.

This from Goose Island…

To our Philadelphia friends and neighbors,

As a direct result of the global health crisis, and the significant impact COVID-19 has had on our business in Philadelphia, we have had to make the difficult decision to close the Goose Island Philadelphia Brewhouse effective today.

Over the past several months, the Goose Island team in Philadelphia has shown incredible resilience in the face of tough challenges. We are grateful for each employees’ contribution to making the Philly Brewhouse a true extension of Goose Island.

Philadelphia and its beer lovers will continue to be very important to Goose Island. Philadelphia has been our second home and we are so appreciative to the city for visiting, sharing beers with us, and allowing us to be part of your hometown.

Here’s to you, Philly.

On November 19 Philadelphia’s Grey Lodge Pub, one of the first bars in the city to celebrate craft beer, took to Facebook to announce that it was closing its doors permanently

Renowned not just for its support of craft beer, but also for its Groundhog Day party, and regular “Friday the Firkinteenth” events. Grey Lodge’s closing was also a blow to the city, in spite of the fact that, it’s brewing arm, Lucky Cat Brewing, will live on (at least for now).
