Well not exactly to a robot, but to a friend of Funky Buddha and quite the brewer himself. And he’s relaunching the lounge and expanding its vision and vibe.
Here’s the deal…
Last August, South Florida’s Funky Buddha sold its operations to Constellation Brands for more than $80 million. But owner Ryan Seitz hung on to its original home, the Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery, a small hookah and music brewery that gave birth to his brand…
But according to the Miami Herald, Sentz, 41 decided that it was time to give leave of his baby…“I’m busier than I’ve ever been, and I couldn’t give it the attention it deserves.”
So he’s sold a majority stake of his dimly lit and trippy brewing outpost to ”Allen Steen, a fellow craft beer maker and former home brewer with whom he collaborated at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival in Colorado.”
Steen will relaunch the legendary brewing mecca as Robot Brewing & Quixotic Lounge, and Ryan Seitz, his longtime friend who still holds a 41% minority stake in that location, will in addition to overseeing Funky Buddha’s growing operations, stay close at hand to offer guidance if needed.
Located in a low-key Boca Raton strip mall, Robot Brewing’s new home will get a facelift over the next two months. It will remain open while thing’s get shined up and Steen promises that it’s new look won’t stray too far from its original funky vibe.
According the Miami Herald Robot Brewing, plans to retain the entire staff including the head brewer, and in addition to continuing the Funky Buddha tradition of culinary-inspired beers, they’ll broadening their directions to include French and Belgian-style farmhouse ales and Florida friendly sours.
