Flying Dog has begun countering the tremendous economic impact brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic by selling kegged beer directly to its fans.

This kind of sales initiative from Maryland’s largest craft brewery, which moved to the state from Colorado in 2006, is unprecedented…But these are unprecedented times.

On March 16 Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced the statewide closure of bars, restaurants to help stem the spread of coronavirus. And his executive action, which also included shutting down movie theaters and gyms, effectively put an end to the brewery’s ability to sell its kegged beers to Maryland’s bars and restaurants.

On Friday, March 20, Flying Dog began accepting keg orders from individuals, as part of its Kurbside Kegs program, to be picked up in front of its Frederick, MD-based brewery which is a short drive northwest from Washington, DC and just west of Baltimore.

And with most of the region sheltering-in-place and many beginning to crawl up the walls, hitting the road for 30 to 45 minutes sounds like a good idea…especially for serious beer.

“Flying Dog prides itself on the quality of our beer,” said James Maravetz, VP of Marketing at Flying Dog. “With bars and restaurants currently limited in their on-premise services, we wanted to give these kegs a good home while they are at their freshest.”

Flying Dog is selling half-kegs (1,984 oz. or more importantly 124 – 16 oz. servings) and sixtels (41 – 16 oz. servings) which will be available for curbside pick-up at the brewery.

Available keg varieties include year-round favorites as well as limited specialty kegs like Tropical Bitch IPA and Irish Coffee Stout. All orders must be placed in advance by visiting flyingdog.com or calling 301-694-7899 between the hours of 10 AM and 1 PM.

A keg deposit and payment are required at pick-up (credit card only, no cash). And limited edition tap handles, stickers and glasses are included in the price of each keg while supplies last. Limit one keg per person per visit.
