DNYC a step towards craft beer liberty in New York

“DNYC wants to partner with every microbrewery in the state and help them expand.”  – Chad Meigs, Drink New York Craft

New York State has an incredibly vital craft beer scene. Unfortunately so many of its beers aren’t distributed much further than their front yards. That’s one of the reasons Chad Meigs founded Drink New York Craft, to provide beer lovers a marketplace where they can discover the best breweries without leaving home.

DNYC Founder Chad Meigs

Chad began in the craft beer industry in 2010 when he founded The Bineyard, a hop farm and network of New York hop growers.  It started with 4 hop plants, and now, there are 6,000 plants across 6 acres. As The Bineyard added more members, Chad would ask them what their biggest challenges were.

The answer was consistently “distribution.” Breweries just didn’t have the resources to enter the market by way of traditional distribution.

But after obtaining a license that allows it to buy as a wholesaler and sell as a retailer, Meigs launched Drink New York Craft, an e-commerce marketplace that is now shipping beers to every residence in the state. And as a result DNYC’s craft beer partners are allowed to enter a market that was once impenetrable because of traditional distribution methods.

In spite of complaints from some, Meig’s seems comfortable in his role as a craft beer biz disruptor….

“Large corporations, distributors, and breweries do not like what we are doing. I’ve gotten a lot of backlash about it, which really enforces the idea that we are doing something insightful. We are doing something that is disrupting. It actually motivates me to pursue this idea even greater.”

DNYC’s e-commerce marketplace is a game-changer that offers beer lovers a serious selection of New York craft beer that previously only existed in taprooms.

“It is my philosophy that the craft beer consumer’s favorite beer is the one that they haven’t had yet,” Meigs added. “As long as your address is in New York, you can drink yours on the couch.”
