Different Types Of Alcohol Deliver Different Highs

alcohol, Different Types Of Alcohol Deliver Different HighsOnce again, scientists are confirming what many of us have long suspected…that different types of alcohol deliver differing forms of mood-enhancement.

And given that the primary reason that most of us drink is because we enjoy how it makes us feel…this is news you can use!

According to a study by the Researchers from the Public Health Wales National Health System Trust and King’s College London, the type of alcohol you consume (beer, wine or spirits) can affect you mood in different ways.

The researchers analyzed the curated responses of 29,836 participants, between 18 and 34 years of age, from 21 countries.

Questionnaire respondents reported drinking the types of alcohol named in the survey over a designated 12 months period and their feedback was eye-opening (or eye-closing) depending on what they were drinking.

Their research confirmed the relaxing aspects that many of us associate with drinking beer, but they also found that certain drinks are likely to be associated with particular emotional states, than others.

Spirits, they reportedly found, boost confidence, but are more often associated with negative moods like aggression and tearfulness, while wines and beer more often elicit a positive response.

Finally, heavy drinkers, or those who reported alcohol dependence, were six times more likely than casual drinkers to say that any alcoholic beverage made them feel more aggressive.

And interestingly enough, that that feeling of aggression remained the same “regardless of whether they drank at home, on their own, or out with friends.”

The study additionally found that excessive alcohol consumption was also tied with an energy boost. Respondents who tended to drink a lot were five times more likely than casual drinkers to say that they felt invigorated by alcohol.

The researchers also found (and again not surprisingly) that age, gender, educational level and country of origin also factored into the study’s results.

The youngest age group for instance, (those 18 to 24 years old), overwhelmingly reported that ANY alcoholic drink, consumed in a social setting, “was likely to boost their confidence and energy levels, and make them feel more attractive.”

One of the study’s final conclusions was however mind-boggling in its simplicity.

Researchers found that the amount of alcohol in the drink might also be a factor in the emotional state it elicits.

To which we can only respond to by asking…yah think?
