Craft Beer And Old Halloween Candy Pairings

, Craft Beer And Old Halloween Candy Pairings

It happens every year, Halloween passes and you still have that Costco bag of trick-or-treat candy laying around the house…Well what to do? You don’t smoke pot anymore so you probably don’t need them as a late-night backup. Then we suggest you take a more sophisticated route….Old Halloween candy and craft beer pairings.

Tootsie Rolls and Arrogant Bastard

We’ve felt for the longest time, that the American Tootsie Roll (first launched in 1896) and Stone’s Arrogant Bastard (1996?) are sometimes forgotten classics. So now’s the time to bring them both together in a stylish celebration of two styles that deserve their due.

Live Oak Hefeweizen and Candy Corn

Hefeweizens have been making a comeback lately, and these wheat-forward favorites with their banana and clove notes pair perfectly with that candy corn you found at the bottom of you trick-or-treat bag. Austin, Texas-based Live Oak Brewing offers one of the best and it might be “just what the doctor ordered” when you’re looking to be done with these things.

Lambics and Skittles

Lambics pair best with tart and fruity candy like Skittles. But SweeTarts and Jolly Ranchers will also do. Some Lambics can be super-tart, so we suggest you drink them with a mouthful of semi-softened Skittles for optimum results.

Peanut M&M’s and North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial

If you’re a seasoned craft beer fan you probably already know of this pairing (and you’re definitely familiar with North Coast’s Old Rasputin).  Most nutty and chocolate candies work well with stouts. And not surprisingly we’ve found that most stouts pair fantastically with several more stouts.

Pete’s Strawberry Blonde Ale and Twizzlers

This one’s a virtual no-brainer…and pairing them together may be the only reason that you’ll, finally open that old Strawberry Blonde Ale that Aunt Hilda sent you twenty years ago, when she found out you were into ”micro-brews.” And paired with Twizzlers, it might still be drinkable. Plus there’s no reason to throw out the leftover Twizzlers once you’re done with your pairing – because Twizzlers have a half-life of approximately 2000 years.
