On December 14th, Danish multinational brewer, Carlsberg announced the purchase of Ontario’s biggest craft brewery, Waterloo Brewing, the first craft brewery to start up in Ontario which is credited with pioneering the present-day craft brewing renaissance in Canada. “One of the priorities of our SAIL’27 strategy [the company’s five-year plan announced earlier this year] is to grow our business in attractive markets where we are small today, such as Canada, said Carlsberg Group CEO Cees ’t Hart. “The acquisition of Waterloo Brewing significantly improves our growth prospects in the Canadian market.”
