Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors may be taking a temporary break from their escalating beer war to help flood victims in the Midwest with water they so desperately need.

Here’s what we know…

Last Monday Anheuser-Busch announced it would be sending three truckload, (more than150,000 cans of emergency drinking water) from its Fort Collins facility to Nebraska and Iowa communities ravaged by the record-high flooding.

This donation comes on top of two previous truckloads, (over 100,000 cans), of clean, safe drinking water delivered last week to Anheuser-Busch wholesaler partner, Eagle Distributing who work alongside the American Red Cross and other local organizations to distribute the water locally to those in need.

Then on Friday MillerCoors announced that it is sending 100,000 cans of water to western Iowa and eastern Nebraska to aid residents and first responders affected by the region’s historic flooding.

This from MillerCoors’ Behind the Beer

“MillerCoors, in partnership with can-maker Ball Corp. and carton-maker Graphic Packaging International, is sending 100,000 cans to Omaha, Neb., and Sioux City, Iowa.”

‘After the cans arrive at MillerCoors distributors, they’ll head to local organizations providing aid, which will distribute the cans as needed.”

Access to safe drinking water is critical and prioritizes the safety of everyone, especially in times of crisis,” said Michael Nordman, community affairs manager at MillerCoors. “Through the donation of the water cans, we aim to provide comfort and relief to Iowa residents impacted by the flooding.”

The result of historic flooding of the Missouri River and its tributaries, thousands of acres in the region are underwater, including cities, towns and farmland according to the New York Times.  At least three people have died, thousands of acres of farmland is ruined, and countless structures have been destroyed.

With drinking water plants now contaminated by the flooding, clean, safe water for the residents and disaster respondents is a critical need.

And the nation’s two biggest beer companies Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors have set their current beer war to the side, at least for a moment, to help aid the nation’s many flood victims.
