Best Winter Beers: New Stouts, Seasonals and Spruce IPA’s

With the new year now here, 2020 is ON. And American craft brewers are addressing the season with a variety of offerings that are cold weather-ready.

Drink Like A Happy Camper (Shiner, TX) – The historic Spoetzl Brewery, home to Shiner Beer is celebrating its 111^th year in action with an exotic beer it did using chocolate from Tejas Chocolate in Tomball, TX…Inspired by the beloved campfire treat, Shiner S’more is a 5% ABV seasonal bursting with roasted malts, decadent chocolate, marshmallows, and vanilla graham cracker notes.

Fiercely Sessionable (Kihei, Hawaii) – The fiercely independent Maui Brewing is kicking off the new year a with a lighter craft beer option. Brewed with a deft medley of  2-Row, Munich, and Wheat malts and Mosaic and Simcoe hops, Maui Mosaic Lite is a full-flavored 4.3% ABV India Pale Ale with only 100 calories, 4g carbs, 0 fat, and 1g protein.

Alaskan Spruces Things Up (Juneau, AL) – Alaskan Brewing is celebrating the start of a new decade with the return of an award-winning seasonal that was  released as part of the brewery’s rotating series in 2017 and has since then gained international recognition with six medals to its name. Brewed with Sitka spruce tips, the fresh new buds that emerge from the boughs of Sitka spruce trees in Southeast Alaska’s forests every spring, Alaskan Spruce IPA is a 7% ABV India Pale with big pine aromatics and a bracingly bright finish.

Harpooning “Dry January” (Boston, NA) – Harpoon is taking a counterintuitive approach to “Dry January” and tripling down on buzz with a special limited release. Dry-hopped with an unapologetic abundance of Calypso, Zythos®, and Mandarina Bavaria hops, Harpoon Dry January is an 11% ABV Triple India Pale Ale with a full-bodied mouthfeel and a bright citrusy finish.
