Since 1975 beer lovers have eagerly awaited the release of Anchor Brewing’s annual Christmas Ale with its distinctive, hand-drawn tree label artwork and secret recipe that changes every winter. Now in its 45th year, Anchor’s 2019 Christmas Ale is a 6.9% ABV Winter Warmer with toasted caramel and coffee notes that are rounded out with herbaceous spices. This year’s release is one of the San Francisco-based brewery’s best.
SweetWater Festive Ale
Just in time for the holidays this Atlanta-based brewery’s strong and cheerfully spiced seasonal ale sports BIG complex flavors to keep you warm and toasted all winter long. Brewed only one day per year, this high-octane 8.1% ABV brew has a sleigh-load of Centennial and Golding hops that’s capped with a dose of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Boulevard Berry Noir
Moving beyond the barrel-aged stouts and winter warmers that dominate the season, Kansas City, Mo’s Boulevard Brewing takes a road less traveled in the world of holiday releases. Inspired by the light spritzy sours in its summer line, but with a richer flavor profile that winter demands, Boulevard Berry Noir is a deep purple 4.2% ABV fruited sour with HUGE notes of blueberries and blackberries…and a crisp tartness that pairs well with Christmas trees.
2019 Great Basin Red Nose Holiday Wassail Ale
Great Basin Brewing offers a unique craft brew that changes with each passing year. This season the Nevada-based brewery has crafted its 6.5% ABV holiday seasonal with hand selected Fuji apples, cloves, cinnamon, allspice, coriander, ginger, star anise, vanilla, maple and nutmeg. And t’s currently available on tap as well as in 600 ultra-limited edition 22oz bombers, each personally signed by Brewmaster Tom Young.
