Fall is ON…and the craft beer biz is only accelerating. But no worries, Rumor Mill is on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that.

Bay Area Craft Beer Institution To Close (Oakland, CA) – A craft beer institution that has been a cornerstone of the Bay Area’s beer scene for almost 30 years will be closing in November, the result of failed lease negotiations.

The Pacific Coast Brewing Company, currently located in the shadows of the Oakland Convention Center (off-season home to the Golden State Warriors), is one of the region’s longest reigning craft brewing operations.

Pacific Coast which we visited last year has garnered a huge reputation for their innovative brewing techniques and the kind of expertise and commitment to craft that is seldom seen in heritage brewpubs of this size. They will be missed.

Words To Drink By (Frederick, MD) – “For those of us dedicated to a free society…freedom of thought is not a mere initiative…It is a value.”   Jim Caruso CEO, Flying Dog Brewing

The Level 1 Hazmat incident, was the result of a “peroxide-based acid” spill according to the Chicago Fire Department. And the department swarmed the brewery in response.

The Good News is that a brewery employee told ABC7 that “the beer will be fine.”

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Downingtown, PA) – Last night we tapped a new year-round release from Victory Brewing. Crafted using six varieties of 100% American whole-flower hops (Azacca, Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Citra, and Mosaic), Victory Home Grown American Lager is a 4.8% refresher that’s a welcome addition to their solid portfolio.
