And now the nan behind it, Stephen Knight, has announced that he is working on a drama about the Guinness dynasty for Netflix.

The series’ working title is “House of Guinness” and according to the Drinks Business, “it will delve into the fallout from the death of brewer and politician Benjamin Guinness in 1868 – think Succession, but with stout.”

Netflix explains the new series this way…

Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, Stephen Knight’s new saga “will focus on the consequences of the death of Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his cunning will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the growing juggernaut that is Guinness.”

“The Guinness dynasty is known the world over – wealth, poverty, power, influence, and great tragedy are all intertwined to create a rich tapestry of material to draw from,” explained Knight. “I’ve always been fascinated by their stories and am excited to bring the characters to life for the world to see.”

“We are beyond thrilled to be working with the incredible Steven Knight to bring the story of the Guinness Family to Netflix audiences, Netflix’s vice president of UK content Anne Mensah said. “It has all the power of Peaky Blinders but the scale and the sweep of a true family saga.”

So yeah, “think Succession, but with stout.”

Brewer’s Yeast Used To Remove Electronic Waste

Not sure that we saw this one coming.

Spent brewer’s yeast which is a widely available byproduct of the brewing process, can help separate the heavy metals found in electronic waste making them easier to recycle.

“Most heavy metals cause environmental and atmospheric pollution, and may be lethal to humans,” according to Science Direct. “Heavy metals can become strongly toxic by mixing with different environmental elements, such as water, soil, and air, and humans and other living organisms can be exposed to them through the food chain.”

“Electronic waste is difficult to recycle because it is very heterogeneous,” paper author Klemens Kremser, a biotechnology researcher at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, said in a statement. “.Compared to processes such as chemical precipitation, biosorption using spent brewer’s yeast presents a cheap and environmentally friendly approach.”

“Heavy metals are classified as carcinogens and have been linked with multi-organ damage according to scientific reports. “Unlike organic pollutants, heavy metals do not degrade and tend to bioaccumulate along the food chain.”
