Polygamy Porter Gets Nixed in North Carolina (Raleigh, NC) – If we told you that a state liquor board had rejected a beer named Polygamy Porter, you’d probably assume that that state was Utah…but you’d be wrong.

Wasatch Brewery’s Polygamy Porter is currently sold in 20 states, including Utah, according to News Channel 3 “but after receiving a rejection letter from North Carolina based on the illegality of polygamy, the Tar Heel State may not be No. 21.”

Wasatch Brewery, which is now part of the CANarchy Collective (also home to Oskar Blues, Cigar City, Perrin, Squatters and Deep Ellum Brewing) filed a request to sell Polygamy Porter in North Carolina. But instead of shipping pallets their way, they got a big, fat rejection letter from North Carolina’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, noting that “Polygamy is illegal. Therefore these products will not be approved.”

Words To Drink By (Salt Lake City, UT) – “It caught us quite by surprise, we were not expecting it especially because we’ve been making this beer now for 18 years. We’re from Utah, it’s tongue in cheek, obviously we’re not trying to promote anything.” Wasatch Brewery COO and Brewmaster Jon Lee to Fox13

, Beer Buzz: Polygamy Porter Banned In NC, Beer Prices To Soar At 2022 World CupThe Price Of Beer Soars Around 2022 World Cup (Qatar) – The price of beer in Qatar, which has long been deliberately prohibitive in the largely Muslim country, got significantly more expensive in 2019.

Home to the 2022 World Cup “Qatar welcomed the new year by implementing a 100 percent tax on alcohol, doubling prices overnight and sending the cost of a 12-pack of beer jumping to $78” according to ABC News …igniting outrage from the region’s non-Muslim populace.

Responding to the social media firestorm, Qatar slashed prices by about 30% last week. But despite the price cut, a case of beer at Qatar’s sole liquor store (yep, there’s only one) will still be pricy…roughly $64 a case according to Bloomberg.
