Beer Buzz – Off With Bud’s Head, Albert Einstein And More Craft Brewery Closings In Portland!

beer, Beer Buzz – Off With Bud’s Head, Albert Einstein And More Craft Brewery Closings In Portland!November’s just flying by…and clearly the craft beer biz isn’t slowing down any time soon. But no worries, Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that.

Has Portland’s Craft Beer Scene Peaked? (Oregon) – Last month, The Commons shocked Portland with their announcement that they’d soon be closing their doors. And now Brewpublic is reporting that Amnesia Brewing will turn off its lights on December 1st.

Amnesia Brewing, which launched in North Portland in 2003, quickly outgrew its original location…and its owner and master brewer Kevin King moved his brewery to Washougal, Washington a close in city just northeast of Portland.

Unfortunately that move never provided the necessary traction to survive in Portland’s densely populated craft beer market. Greater Portland is currently home to as many as 60 craft breweries,  the most of any American city…But as of December it will unfortunately be home to one less…

And if you think that Amnesia’s closing will be the last Portland craft brewery to be calling it quits as we look to 2018, think again…It all comes down to supply and demand, and  “anything that can’t go on forever…won’t.” And sadly that includes any region’s seemingly unstoppable craft brewery growth.

Words To Drink By (Princeton, NJ) – “I never think about the future…It comes soon enough.”   Albert Einstein, theoretical physicist

Off With Bud’s Head (Belgium) – These can be unforgiving times for Big Beer companies, especially when you’re the world’s biggest brewer and your once dependable flagship brand (and Bud Light we’re looking at you!), is suffering from years of decline.

This Bud’s For You (But No For You) – On Monday AB InBev announced that they were replacing North America Zone President and Anheuser-Busch CEO, Joao Castro Neves, with Michel Doukeris  who currently serves as the company’s chief sales officer and is  credited with growing Budweiser’s presence  in China.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (St James Gate, Dublin) – Last night we hit up an historical release from Guinness that was brewed to commemorate the first beer export from Dublin to the US, more than 200 years ago. Brewed using the brewery’s original Black Patent Malt, Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout is a brilliant 6% ABV re-creation, inspired by brewing logs from 1817!
