The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s some more of what’s been happening in the beer world, while you were drinking your way through a chilly weekend.
Here’s What We Didn’t Know About Shipyard Brewing (Portland, ME) – Well it turns out there’s a lot we didn’t know about this heritage brewery which launched in 1992…like they’re largest brewer in Maine…and the fourth largest craft brewery in New England after Boston Beer Company, Harpoon Brewery, and Magic Hat Brewing Company.
We had no idea that Shipyard Brewing had any presence in the United Kingdom, and wouldn’t have dreamed that their American Pale Ale is currently available at more than 900 UK Pubs, where its sales grew by 30% in 2017 according to BDN Business!
And we didn’t have a clue that Shipyard Brewing has a very active contract businesses and that in addition to their family of brands, they operate several restaurants. Or that they are currently the best-selling brand of kegged beer in the United Kingdom!
Words To Drink By (Greenwood, MS) – “Stay away from the ones you love too much. Those are the ones who will kill you.” Donna Tartt, The Goldfinch
Black Star Line Brewing Closes (Hendersonville, NC) – And the Charlotte Observer’s report that the “self-described black, queer woman-owned brewery in the Asheville area claims white supremacy forced it to shut down.”
The first Black, family & women owned brewery in ‘Beer City’ recently announced on Facebook that it would no longer operate at its downtown Hendersonville location. Then last week it added a second post which said they’d been shut down after “white loan officers called the police.”
“White supremacy shut us down,” company founder L.A. McCrae told foodie website Munchies. “Our world has been rocked.”
