Japanese Brewer Looses $2 Billion After AB InBev Deal (Tokyo) –  Japanese brewing giant Asahi lost more than $2bn of its market value on Monday, according to the Financial Times, as investors responded negatively following the announcement of a mega-deal to buy Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Australian holdings.

Seeking to expand its international reach and counter declining sales at home, Asahi moved quickly to acquire AB InBev-owned Carlton & United Breweries, an $11.3bn deal that doubles Japan’s largest brewery’s existing debt load.

Asahi’s acquisition of AB InBev’s Australian property follows its blockbuster purchase  of UK brewer and pub operator Fuller’s earlier this year, a £250 million, deal which included flagship brand London Pride and the historic Griffin Brewery in London., Beer Buzz: GABF Tix Go On Sale Next Week, Asahi Loses Big In AB InBev Deal
