Craft Beer Grows In Croatia (Eastern Europe) – While craft beer has become quite the force in Western Europe, Ireland and the UK, it’s just starting to get some traction in Eastern Europe and notably in Croatia.

Croatia’s beer landscape is currently dominated by five major “industrial” brands followed by as many as 40 small craft breweries and that number is growing. Straddling that mass market/craft line at six is the Daruvar Brewery known for the country’s popular Staročeško brand. And according to Total Croatia News, Daruvar is also home to Master Brewer Krešo Marić  own line of small batch beers marketed under the 5^th Element banner which is the first time that a ‘craft’ direction has been addressed by a Croatian brewery of this scale.

Croatia is ranked as the 22^nd biggest producer of beer in Europe, with an annual production of around 3.4 million hectoliters, and it currently employs more than 28,000 people. In 2017 Croatia saw its craft beer sector grow an encouraging 60 percent.

Richmond’s The Veil Looks To Expand Into Norfolk (Virginia) Richmond, Virginia-based The Veil took to Facebook to announce that “with some cooperation from the city of Norfolk,” they hope to open a modern brewpub in the new and upcoming Railroad District of Norfolk in late Spring of 2019.

Former Red Sox Player Brings Loma Beers To Boston (Los Gatos, CA) – Former Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis , who along with his brother, formed Loma Brewing in California has cut a contract deal with Harpoon Brewery to brew two of their beers (both IPAs) and to oversee their distribution in the Boston area according to MassLive.
