Mikkeller’s Twin Peaks Beers

The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here are just some of what’s been happening in the beer world, while you were drinking your way through the weekend.

Mikkeller Collaborates With David Lynch On Twin Peaks Beer (LA/NY) – Mikkeller’s NYC team are HUGE fans of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks series, and working closely with the famed director they created three different beers that made their debut at the director’s Festival of Disruption which took place in Los Angeles over the weekend.

David Lynch was heavily involved in all aspects of the process according to Mikkeller, “starting with the concepts, names and all the way through sensory analysis and tasting.  In particular, he and Mikkeller’s art director Keith Shore traded ideas and conspired on the packaging.” And each beer’s illustration is based on iconic scenes from Twin Peaks television series.

The Festival of Disruption focuses on music, art, film and meditation (and beer…no?). Additionally the three Twin Peaks limited releases are currently available at Mikkeller’s locations in LA, San Francisco, Oakland and San Diego…but we expect that they won’t be for long.

Words To Drink By (Bend, OR) – “There’s nothing quite like urinating out in the open air.”  Agent Cooper, Twin Peaks.

beer, Beer Buzz – Beer Apocalypse Averted? Mikkeller ‘Twin Peaks’ Beer And More!Apocalypse Not Now (Maine/Oregon) – Last Thursday the Bangor Daily News reported that Mason’s Brewing (a small brewery in Brewer, Maine, of all places!), received a  letter from lawyers representing AB InBev-owned 10 Barrel Brewing “demanding his brewery stop using the name ‘Hipster Apocalypse, for its flagship India Pale Ale,” as it’s in conflict 10 Barrel’s own Apocalypse IPA, a brand they’ve been brewing since 2009.

But that potential beer litigation apocalypse, might have been adverted after a very civil phone call on Friday between the two principles, Mason’s owner Chris Morley and 10 Barrels Jeremy Cox according to the Bend Bulletin.

Part of a four beer apocalyptic series called End of Days, Mason’s Brewing’s label does differs significantly from 10 Barrel’s Apocalypse IPA basic design and for now Mason’s Hipster Apocalypse remains in play. And it’s a ‘make beer, not war’ situation, at least for now.
