Beer Buzz – Angry Chair Beer Release Gets Ugly, Brewery Ommegang And More!

beer, Beer Buzz – Angry Chair Beer Release Gets Ugly, Brewery Ommegang And More!Yikes..March already. And clearly the craft beer biz isn’t slowing down any time soon. But no worries, the Beer Buzz is always on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that.

Angry Chair Beer Release Pisses off the Neighborhood (Tampa, FL) – Sounds like Cigar City’s beloved Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout release last week which has become its own festival, wasn’t the only special release in Tampa that was generating crowds. According to our friend Jim Vorel at Paste, things got ugly around a highly anticipated mid-Thursday release at Angry Chair Brewing.

Angry Chair Brewing has become known for their big boozy “pastry stouts” and the impending release of something they called Barrel-Aged Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake started drawing crowds who began camping out on the neighborhood sidewalks early…LIKE THE NIGHT BEFORE, EARLY, which as you can imagine didn’t sit well with the neighborhoods’ residents.

And if the midnight lines weren’t problematic enough, some idiots started paying homeless people to hold their places in line for them overnight, which led to pictures of them sleeping on the neighborhood sidewalks and to a social media nightmare Tampa’s Angry Chair Brewing.

Additional stories of the now infamous Barrel-Aged Imperial German Chocolate Cupcake being immediately resold in the brewery parking lot at 8 times its face value didn’t help what had understandably turned into a very bad day for Angry Chair Brewing.

You can think all you want that we planned this … but we did not. We’re sorry. We suck.” Angry Chair Brewing / Facebook

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Cooperstown, NY) – Last night we hit up an advance from Ommegang that is first beer from their Game of Thrones-inspired Royal Reserve Collection. Taking its lead from the English-style tradition, Ommegang Hand Of The Queen is a rich 10.7% ABV malt-forward Barleywine which will become available nationwide in the beginning of April.
