Fashion Giant Wins Battle Waged Against Small Welsh Brewery (UK) – Boss Brewing has been ordered to pay almost £10,000 in court costs, change the name of two of its beers and stop selling branded clothing following a four month trademark battle with designer fashion label Hugo Boss. As reported by Wales Online, Boss Brewing, which was founded in 2014, received a cease and desist letter from high-end fashion retailer Hugo Boss after applying to trademark its brand.

In the David vs Goliath battle the court sided with Hugo Boss which has 420 retail stores around the world, and employs over 14,000 people. And a costly compromise was eventually reached, whereby Boss Brewing was required to change the name of two of its beers and stop selling its branded clothing, which include items such as hats and t-shirts.

Words To Drink By (United Kingdom) – “This has been a horrible experience, and so stressful…At the moment we are investing in a new bottling line and that money wasted in legal fees could have been invested in a new kit.”  Boss Brewing’s Sarah John to Wales Online

Amazon Plans for Brick and Mortar Liquor Store (San Francisco, CA) – Amazon has applied for a license to open its first “brick and mortar” location which would only sell alcohol products including beer, wine and spirits in San Francisco. But more importantly it would enable the company to offer booze delivery to local Amazon Prime Now customers.

According to a filing, entered by the Strike & Techel law firm, Amazon also intends on opening a 200-square-foot storefront from which consumers could buy alcohol directly, which would also serve as a hub for Amazon Prime Now’s liquor delivery service.

Assuming Amazon’s proposal is approved, “San Francisco would join cities such as Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Washington, D.C., as places where Amazon makes alcohol deliveries,” according to the Mercury News.
