beer, Beer Buzz – AB InBev Goes Ultra Organic, Metal Band Beers And More!Yikes…February’s almost over. And clearly the craft beer biz isn’t slowing down any time soon. But no worries, the Beer Buzz is always on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that.

Michelob Ultra Goes Organic (New York, NY) – When AB InBev relaunched Michelob Ultra in 2002 they repositioned it as less of a beer brand and more of a sports brand…and that strategy has been wildly successful. In fact the Michelob brand has been a bright spot for Anheuser-Busch in a sluggish industry and market share for the beer has grown for 10 straight quarters in the US.

Michelob is looking to further capitalize on that success with the launch of Michelob Ultra Pure Gold, a new addition to their portfolio that’s brewed using organic grains and is still only has 85 calories and 2.5 carbs.

Officially Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth, a third-party, non-profit organic certification organization Michelob Ultra Pure Gold targets the athletic and health conscience consumer…a slightly younger demographic that according to Bloomberg are more likely to live on the coasts.

Words To Drink By (New York, NY) – “We see this as an opportunity to keep leading the way in innovation in light beer and aligning great-tasting products with health and wellness trends.”  Azania Andrews, VP/ Michelob Ultra.

The New Deftones/Belching Beaver Special Release is a Brown Ale w/ coconut, coffee and maple syrup that’s named after the song “Good Morning Beautiful” from their 2003 self-titled album and is expected to hit retail any day now.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Atlanta, GA) – We recently hit up a new small batch seasonal from SweetWater Brewing that was uber-hoppy, bright and sessionable at the same time. Powered primarily on Lemondrop hops that blasted the beer’s aromatics, SweetWater Grass Monkey is a 5.4% ABV Witbier which takes the traditional Wheat Ale in a dramatically hoppier direction.
