Beer Biz – Feuding Beer Twins Stake Separate Claims In Queens, Serial Beer Litigator Srikes Again!

beer, Beer Biz – Feuding Beer Twins Stake Separate Claims In Queens, Serial Beer Litigator Srikes Again! The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s some more of what’s been happening in the beer world, while you’ve been drinking yourself stupid all weekend.

Feuding Beer Brothers Standoff In Queens (New York) – Mikkel Borg Bjergso and Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso are 42-year-old identical twins. That are both in the brewing biz but have become ‘estranged’ over the years, which makes the fact that they will both soon have competing breweries based in Queens, NY, even ‘stranger.’

Mikkel Borg Bjergso, who currently lives in Copenhagen, is the legendary gypsy brewer behind Mikkeller Beer, an internationally renowned brand that according to the New York Times “focuses on opening quirky bars around the world to sell his experimental brews straight to fans.” And he ‘’officially opened his second large scale brewery at Citi Field in Queens over the weekend.

He’s also made a name for himself as a gypsy brewer and the two have barely spoken to each other since 2010 when Jeppe launched Evil Twin a separate beer empire  that has distributed its beers to over 35 countries around the world. And ironically he’s building his first Evil Twin brick and mortar brewery that’s scheduled to open this summer in the Ridgewood neighborhood of Queens!

Since the feuding twin brewers say they no longer converse with one another it’s impossible to know if their separate brewery openings are coincidental or deftly strategic, acts of familial one-upmanship or cleverly orchestrated publicity stunts. But secrets are hard to keep in the beer biz and we promise you these brothers are plugged into to what each other is dong and this brewing face-off in queens is going to be EPIC to watch this year.

Words To Drink By (Brooklyn, NY) – “These guys both started off as gypsy breweries… I think it’s great that both brands are coming to a city that needs more great beer.” Andrew Burman, co-founder of Other Half Brewing

This time the litigious Peacock, is  going after Pabst Blue Ribbon-owned Olympia Beer claiming that “the beer company falsely implies that the beer comes from artesian spring water in Tumwater, Washington when, in fact, the company brews Olympia in the San Gabriel Valley city of Irwindale,” according  to the Sacramento Bee.
