One of the beer industry’s most prestigious competitions, the World Beer Cup took place in Nashville last week. And we’ve five award-winning beers from this year’s contest that you absolutely need to chase down.
A World Beer Cup Winner (Paso Robles, CA) – As part of this week’s Beer Alerts we’ll be showcasing some of 2018’s award-winning beers…but only winners that you can actually find at retail or on tap…otherwise why bother? As we’ve reported Firestone Walker had quite a run picking up three awards. But our favorite is Firestone DBA their flagship 5% ABV Double Barrel Ale that’s brewed as a tribute to the British cask tradition.
A World Beer Cup Winner That’s Out Of This World! (Portland, OR) – We just checked in with Ecliptic Brewing and their World Beer Cup winning Orbiter IPA, a 7.4% ABV cosmic celebration of Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Columbus and Simcoe, will be returning any day now.
A World Beer Winner That Is Guaranteed To Get You Wacked! (Houston, TX) – Saint Arnold Brewing almost always takes home a medal at the World Beer Cup and this year’s Gold Medal winner is already in our fridge! A sibling of sorts with the brewery’s Fancy Lawnmower Beer (they’re both different takes on the Bavarian Hefeweizen), Saint Arnold Weedwacker is a 4.9% ABV unfiltered year-round that’s fermented with a special Bavarian yeast.
A ‘Killer’ World Beer Cup Keller (St Paul, MN) – Summit Brewing rarely walks away from the World Beer Cup without a win, and this year’s big winner is already an American Craft Beer fav! Summit Keller Pils is a spectacular 5.1% ABV year-round that took a bronze medal in Nashville this year.
A World Beer Cup Winning IPA (Portland, OR) – Taking a gold in the World Beer Cup’s crowded IPA competition is a BIG DEAL and Old Town Brewing nailed it this year! Old Town Shanghai’d IPA is a 6.5% ABV English-style IPA with a balanced malt backbone, a grapefruit aroma, and a resinous hop finish. And, oh yeah, Old Town took a gold for their Pilsner this year as well.
