Winter is ON and American craft brewers are addressing the season new offerings you’re gonna want to have around.
‘Tis The Season (Escondido, CA) If the warmth, indulgence, and festive cheer of the holidays could ever be fit in a can, Stone Brewing has returned a holiday favorite that gets it done and then some.
Combining the decadent inspiration of fine Oaxacan Hot Chocolate and the beloved Tres Leches cake, Stone Xocoveza Tres Leches is an 8.5% ABV Imperial Stout with a robust blend of sweet spices, a ton of dark and milk chocolate, vanilla, and cold brew coffee. And Psaila peppers impart a light hint of heat in the finale. But in spite of its heady complexity, this holiday release is surprisingly bright on the palate, with just a touch of sweetness that all the decadent flavors imply. The result is, and silky smooth.
“The first time you take a sip of Stone Xocoveza, it will immediately transport you to a winter day, sitting by the fire with hot cocoa and surrounded by good cheer,” says Stone Brewing Sr. Manager of Brewing & Innovation Jeremy Moynier. It’s a beer with several layers of ingredients coming together in different ways that get better and more complex as you keep drinking it.
Smoking! (Burlington, VT) – The World Beer Cup is global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers. And in 2022 Switchback Brewing took home a Gold award in the “Historical Beer” category in 2022 and a Bronze in 2023 for a beer that first debuted as part of the brewery’s brilliant Flynn on Fire Smoked Beer Initiative – a line of beers that explore the endless possibilities of smoked malt.
Named after Switchback’s longest serving Tap Room bartender and employee-owner, Katie Macuga, and now thankfully available in 16oz 4-pqck cans, Switchback Katie’s Love Poem is an award-winning 3.2% ABV Grodziskie – a light and lofty Polish Wheat Ale with a classic touch of smoke.
The Kimmie, the Yink, and the Holy Gose Cometh (Boonville, CA) – The Anderson Valley Brewing Company has returned an amazingly named release that you should chase it down for its name alone. Described by Anderson Valley Brewing as a “gateway Gose,” The Kimmie the Yink and the Holy Gose Ale is a tart 4.2% ABV German-Style Gose Ale with a tight creamy head that gives way to earthy wood undertones and a tart yet dry, effervescent finish.
We figured there had to be an interesting story behind the beer’s unusual name so we turned to Anderson Valley Brewing President & CEO Kevin McGee, who confirmed our suspicion…
“Kimmie and Yink are boontling words for father and son,” Kevin explained. “One of the owners at the time the beer was released was the son of a preacher and the name of the beer was a bit of a call out to that relationship.”
