Australia’s Craft Beer Drinkers On Australian Craft Beer

beer, Australia’s Craft Beer Drinkers On Australian Craft BeerBeer Cartel, an Australian craft beer retailer, recently released the results of what was reported to be the most comprehensive, publicly available study of Australian beer drinkers ever. And it turns out Australia’s craft beer fans share much of America’s passion for beer independence.

The 2017 Australian Craft Beer Survey, which collected feedback from more than 17,000 participants, echoed sentiments widely held here in the states and increasingly in Europe.

Key findings included…

  • Brewery ownership is important. 64% of the study’s respondents care about who owns the beer they’re drinking.
  • As with America’s core craft beer community, there is a strong preference for craft beer from independently owned Australian breweries:99% of those responding strongly favor independently owned Australian breweries and only 23% of those respondents were happy to buy craft beer from a large multi-national company.
  • Just as in America where support of the Brewers Association’s ‘seal of independence’ is growing, there is strong interest for a seal to identify whether a beer is from an independent Australian brewery. 82% of those responding indicated that an independent brewers seal would have a medium to large impact on the product they purchase.
  • Pirate Life was voted Australia’s best craft brewery supplanting Feral Brewing which held the #1 spot in last year’s study.
  • The Pale Ale reigns as Australia’s most popular beer style enjoying the support 92% of craft beer drinkers Australia-wide.
