Mikkeller MBCC This Weekend! (Copenhagen) – One of the best beer events on the face of the planet, the 2018 Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen is taking place this weekend (May 11th – 12th) and if any of you were lucky enough to be holding tickets to this almost completely sold out beerganza you’re probably already over in Europe and most likely not reading us.
And yes, it’s the main two-day event with more than 100 brilliant breweries and 800+ beers that draws the international masses…but it’s the secreted after-hours drinking gatherings where brewing legends let their guard down, the music gets turned up, and things really get wild!
TV Time & Streaming – FX recently debuted a stylish, new multilayered 10 episode miniseries that tackles the infamous Getty kidnapping of 1973 but also serves as an almost gothic examination of the trials and triumphs of one of America’s wealthiest and unhappiest families. Directed by film icon Danny Boyle, Trust stars Donald Sutherland a J Paul Getty, possibly the world’s richest man, who lives his life barricaded in his Tudor estate with a bevy of mistresses (and a lion)…and is so cheap that he won’t spend a dime to free his grandson whose been kidnapped by the Italian mafia.
On The Big Screen – For maybe the first time in Weekend Picks history we’re going with a documentary. And not just a documentary, this visceral essay may be one of the most beautiful films EVER! Directed by Jennifer Peedom, Mountain chronicles the visually stunning high altitude settings that invite adventurers from Tibet to Australia, from Alaska to Norway, to risk their lives in the name of sport and incredible beauty.

This weekend we’ll be enjoying a new OneHitter Series release from Lagunitas Brewing that’s an offseason take on the fresh hop IPA concept, crafted using freeze-dried wet hops. It’s probably fairer to call Lagunitas Born Again Yesterday is a ‘freeze-dried’ 7% ABV Pale Ale but that doesn’t mean it won’t be serious fun!
