Hey it’s an Oktoberfest Weekend…and we’re all about enjoying this timeless tradition. Of course we’ll still be covering this weekend’s hottest movies, music and cutting edge TV – but we’ll be doing it in our lederhosen.

Oktoberfest Everywhere (Earth) – Its Oktoberfest season, time to dust off the lederhosen and bang out a new polka mixtape. More importantly, it’s time to hit up the nearest Oktoberfest celebration because it is ON…And they’re taking place everywhere.

For authenticity and seasonal weather we suggest that you look north to Alberta, Canada and take in the Edmonton Oktoberfest this weekend.

But there’s also the 6th annual Muskegon Oktoberfest in Michigan next week, The 38th annual Fredericksburg Oktoberfest down in Texas (Oct 6th-8th).

Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (who was shamed out of Hollywood after his film opened to brutal reviews), BeerFest has gone on to become a true Oktoberfest classic.

Starring grand dame Cloris Leachman as Great Gam Gam Wolfhouse and Donald Sutherland, who was sadly overlooked in awards season for his riveting role as her husband, Beerfest is required Oktoberfest viewing.

Oktoberfest Music/ Music / Music –Only one genre of music is appropriate this weekend…it’s gotta be polka.

And we suggest you head out to your local music store (they’re still around…right?) and scoop up anything from the master, Frankie Yankovic, who’s acclaimed around the world as the “Polka King.”

We’re particularly fond of his definitive German Drinking Songs. And even though Six Fat Dutchmen is a classic, you’re not making a mistake if you go with his Greatest Polka Hits collection.

OUR OKTOBERFEST WEEKEND BEER PICK

If it looks like we’re in the tank for Eugene, Oregon-based Ninkasi Brewing thatt’s because we are. And like Pennsylvania’s Victory they understand the art of brewing lagers better than most. Ninkasi Oktoberfest is a brilliant 5.9% ABV Märzen that melds Pacific Northwest instincts with a traditional German brewing techniques, yet doesn’t forget the hops.
