How American Craft Beer Will Be Celebrating Patrick’s Day

, How American Craft Beer Will Be Celebrating Patrick’s Day

St Patrick’s Day is almost here and although we’re largely pagan here at American Craft Beer this has long become a day for serious drinking – so obviously we’re in!

Celebrated annually on March 17 for more than 1000 years, St Patrick’s Day, no longer just a religious holiday has evolved into a cultural celebration of the Irish people as well, many of whom have already started drinking, but we hope to catch up.

What We Won’t Be Doing

We won’t be wearing green for the holiday that’s for sure…Most Americans are multi-ethnic mashups nowadays anyway and almost everybody claims to be largely Irish on St Patrick’s Day if only to rationalize their flagrant drunkenness.

As craft beer journalists, we no longer have to rationalize our St Patrick’s Day drinking here at American Craft Beer, we used to be drunks but now we’re professionals chasing a story!

What We Will Be Doing

Out of deference to St Patrick, we usually start drinking beer around breakfast on this holiday…We plan to start with low ABV Irish lagers so we can maintain a light buzz throughout the workday.

We’ll then be skipping out of work early and hitting up an Irish pub somewhere in town to get in the mood. (Nothing like hanging out with hundreds of college kids (and the occasional Iranian) all claiming to be Irish.

We may also try to track down some authentic Irish cuisine.

ACB’s Tom Bobak covering St Parick’s Day

Who doesn’t enjoy a big bowl of Irish stew that’s 90% potatoes and cabbage, that’s thankfully punctuated with tidbits of lamb, mutton, or goat after having consumed 120 beers?

Later we’ll Uber our way home and make faces at the authorities manning the DUI checkpoints, as they begrudging wave us along.

Being the professionals we are, we’ll probably end St Patrick’s Day as we always do, by blaring old U2 and Pogues recordings until the neighbors threaten to call the cops.

A small glass of some undistinguished Irish whiskey usually finishes things off nicely as we give up on trying to undress and pass out somewhere near the bed, with strains of Danny Boy auto-repeating in our head.

Again, we no longer even try to rationalize our St Patrick’s Day behavior here at the American Craft Beer compound…

Hey, we used to be drunks, but now we’re craft beer professionals chasing a story.
