Stone Celebrates 20 Years In The Biz This Weekend (San Marcos, CA) – Stone is throwing its 20th Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Festival this weekend (Aug 19th-20th) and although you may have to scalp tickets to one of Saturday’s two sessions, tickets to Friday night’s Brewers Reception were still available the last time we checked. Billed as southern California’s largest craft beer festival, this year’s Invitational will feature more than 100 beers from 60 specially chosen breweries including all kinds of specially curated limited releases and Stone one-offs. There will also be special Cask Beer tent at this year’s celebration and Stone 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA Thunderstruck IPA will be on tap all throughout the grounds. On The Big Screen – This summer’s big movies have largely been huge critical and economic disappointments and we don’t expect things to change with the release this weekend’s much-hyped Ben-Hur. Taking on a classic is always fraught with peril and remaking William Wyler’s 1959 original that went on to win 11 Academy Awards (including Best Picture) is both arrogance and idiocy. Early review of this remake are calling it a total dog – so we suggest you avoid the Cineplex entirely this weekend and just drink heavily.
Grab Your Lederhosen Homey Because It Is On! (Atlanta, GA) – The 13t annual German Bier Fest returns to Atlanta’s beautiful Woodruff Park this Saturday afternoon, August 20th and you don’t want to miss it! This year’s celebration of Germany’s brewing heritage will feature more than 50 German Beers along with traditional foods, music and activities. So Prost! TV Time – Not since The Wire has a crime series addressed the complexities and flaws of our country’s criminal justice system with the ferocity of HBO’s The Night Of. This brilliant eight-part New York City-based police procedural stars Riz Ahmed as Nasir “Naz” Khan, a Pakistani-American college student accused of murdering a girl on the Upper West Side and John Turturro as John Stone, the ambulance-chasing lawyer who represents him.
