We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. But clearly all that’s changed.
So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.
Another Brick In The Wall (Planet Earth) The Anheuser-Busch InBev takeover of SABMiller reportedly moved two steps closer to becoming the biggest beer company in the world last Friday when China’s Ministry of Commerce approved the $103 billion deal and “the target’s shareholders began lining up in favor of the transaction after the Budweiser maker raised its bid.” As we’ve been writing for a while now, this is a done deal and it always has been.
Just Have The Balls To Admit You’re A Sellout (Athens, GA) – Two weeks ago Terrapin Beer quietly sold the rest of their brewery to Tenth and Blake, the craft and import division of MillerCoors who already held almost 25% of the company. And they were so proud of what they did (or so busy counting the money) that they didn’t even bother to issue a press release…But after word leaked out (MillerCoors did make an announcement on their site) they were shamed by their fans into finally acknowledging that they had in fact SOLD OUT to Big Beer via their Facebook page.

MillerCoors Buying Spree Continues (Springfield & Eugene, OR) – Having just recently purchased Terrapin Beer you would think that MillerCoors might be sated. But it appears their craft beer buying spree is only accelerating. Last Friday, the craft division of MillerCoors reportedly added Oregon-based Hop Valley Brewing to a fast growing portfolio that already includes Blue Moon, Leinenkugel, Saint Archer and the recently acquired Terrapin Beer.
